You may be aware of the UK’s general skills shortage. Skills levels generally have fallen behind those of our European neighbours, and accordingly the subject has risen high on the government agenda.

Apprenticeships are one of the best ways we can help fill the skills gap and build expertise amongst the workforce in the UK. In recent years, apprenticeships have grown in popularity, trebling from an uptake of 75,000 candidates in 1997 to 250,000 in2007. The government intends to increase this figure to 500,000 apprentices in the UK by 2020.

NHTA and Krowns Academy are here to help meet your demands as the business benefits of apprenticeships becomes more widely acknowledged.

An apprentice brings together the best of education and employment. Apprentices benefit from the on–the–job training so that they gain valuable practical experience as well as specific work related skills.

Apprenticeships are becoming more and more popular with learners being recognised as a high quality route to work and career development.

For employers they also represent an effective means of closing the skills gap and training the employees of the future. Government funding and support for apprenticeships has also significantly raised their status.

Hairdressing apprentices are employed in a salon, making a contribution to the business by assisting and supporting senior members of staff and allowing employers to train their own staff to meet their specific business needs.

Our hairdressing qualifications are highly practicable and competency based, focusing on skills within the workplace. They are suitable for new entrants to the industry and for career progression.

Apprentices can find work within a hairdressing salon, spa, cruise liner or hotel and employers have ready made professionals who can make a valuable and immediate contribution to the entire business.

We can now cut out manual marking and save countless hours of time with the new City & Guilds, Essential Knowledge and Understanding (EKU) tests and Underpinning Knowledge (UPK) tests on GOLA (Global Online Assessment). Comprehensive sets of tests for hairdressing apprenticeships are now available on line with NHTA giving instant results and feedback at times that suit you, the employer and the learner.
